Exploring Summer

This summer has been quite mild in Slovenia, and also rainy – which doesn’t bother me in the slightest, because I prefer not to roast when I’m in the town. We have, however, made several nice day trips to the mountains and we spent a week at the seaside in Croatia.

Today, I want to share a couple of photos with you – maybe you’ll fall in love with our corner of the world and come visit :) I highly recommend it!

This is a view up the beautiful Logarska dolina, a valley that’s quite near the Austrian border. We took the path that you can just make out in the lower right corner of the photo – it took us along the icy cold river and right up to the foothills of the mountains. We’ve hiked here before and went higher up as well (the views are gorgeous!), but since I’m in my third trimester and getting rather clumsy, we decided to stay on easier paths.

These are some very shaggy cattle that we saw there – our cows are of the “normal”, short-haired variety, so I think these must be imported from somewhere, but they looked really cute. They’re smaller and hairier and look like they belong somewhere in the North.

This photo is from this week’s trip to Jezersko, which is also close to Austria. It was very hot in Ljubljana on that day (33°C; 91 F), but it was cooler here. We had a great lunch after our walk, sat by the lake, read, watched the ducks fight (there were some very vicious ones, totally feral) and vowed to come exploring in the years to come.

And these are two photos of the sunsets we had the privilege of observing while we vacationed in Croatia (quite close to Pula). The weather wasn’t really appropriate for swimming and sunbathing – it rained a lot and the wind was really cold – but we strolled around in the evenings and managed to catch up on sleep and reading. Very relaxing.

Where have you been this summer?

Do you prefer the mountains or the sea?

  • Love the pictures, especially the first one- looks very relaxing by the river there. Slovenia does look awesome. Our summer has been mild as well, although it is heating up now. Thanks for sharing these.

Hi, Greg, thanks for the comment!
Oh yes, the river was great – so cold my feet hurt when I went wading in after our hike. I wouldn’t dream of actually bathing in it!
